Immigration Executive Order Travel Caution On Friday, January 27, 2017, President Trump signed an Executive Order, “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States”. This order may affect employees who are Lawful Permanent Residents, or foreign nationals holding Non-Immigrant Visa status including F-1, H-1B, J, L, O, R or, TN status. The Order suspends the US Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days. Additionally, there are restrictions on the entry of foreign nationals from certain countries:
  • ·         Iraq
  • ·         Iran
  • ·         Libya
  • ·         Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Yemen
The order bans immigrant and non-immigrant entry from these 7 nations, for at least 90 days. We are recommending that foreign nationals from the above listed countries do not travel outside the United States at this time. However, other countries may be added and adjudications of other immigration benefits could be impacted. We have noticed delays in processing Non-Immigrant Visas at the Embassies and Consulates in non-affected countries and recommend that foreign nationals consult with an attorney before departing the United States. The Executive Order also requires In-Person Interviews for most Non-Immigrant Visa Applicants. It suspends the Visa Interview Waiver Program (VIWP, AKA “Drop Box”) and requires that all Non-Immigrant Visa Applicants attend an in-person interview unless an interview is not required by statute.   For more information, please contact info@robinsonkirlew.com or 301 614 3330.
